Drum kits are both idiophones and membranophones.A drum kit, drum set or trap set is a collection of drums and other percussion instruments set up to be played by a single player.
drummers extend kits from this basic pattern, adding more drums, more cymbals, and many other instruments. In some styles of music particular extensions are normal, for example double bass drums in heavy metal music. but more rarely, some performers omit elements from even the basic setup, also dependent on the style of music and individual preferences.
More specifically, a modern kit (for a right handed player), as used in popular music, taught in many music schools consists of:
snare drum, mounted on a specialised stand, placed between the player's knees and played with drum sticks (which may include rutes or brushes).
bass drum, played by a pedal operated by the right foot.
hi-hat stand and cymbals, operated by the left foot and played with the sticks, particularly but not only the right hand stick.
tom-tom drums, played with the sticks.
suspended cymbals, played with the sticks, particularly but not only the right hand stick.
A drum kit is usually played seated on a drum stool or throne.
Vintage 1960/70s 3 ply Maple Mahogany shells with Maple reinforcing rings.
All restoration work done by Envy Drums (my version of the Gretsch mod kits that have become so trendy, but higher quality materials and techniques).
One of a kind custom hand fabricated wrap in Broken Glass Green Glitter with Flat Black pin striping. Adhesive applied completely around drum to prevent notorious bubbling and lifting. Shells have been doweled and interior repainted in traditional gloss white. Tom mount holes and tone control holes on the 8 x 12 and 10 x 14 have been doweled. Rack toms have "RIMS" mounts with brand new Gibraltar brackets. 4 small holes from old rail mount on Bass drum were doweled and it has been restored like virgin. The 16 and 8x12 are from the Keystone badge era and the 10x14 and Bass are from the blue and olive badge era. Had intended to use 4 of the vintage Keystone badges when I started, but two seem to have grown legs because I can't find them.
I have 2 more current Keystone style badges on as of now, but am still hoping to find the old ones to complete my vision.
All drums have been butt seamed as opposed to overlap process. This allows head to rest flush against bearing edge. In addition, all drums have fresh bearing edges using 6 stage process, 3 grit sanding, and finishing technique. T's, claws, spurs and lugs are all made in the vintage era by Ludwig other than 5 Ts and claw hooks used on Bass drum. All drum hoops including Bass are brand new. The new 10 ply Maple Bass hoops have a reverse pattern (gloss black, green glitter glass, gloss black) and (green glitter glass, gloss black, green glitter glass) with a beautiful amber gloss interior shellac.
Drums have 0 miles since restoration and are road ready. 8x12, 10x14,16x16,14x22. This is one of the most well recorded (most famous name on drums) brand and shell make up of the 60's and 70's. Ludwig is now reproducing a shell based on these due to popular demand.
